Match day three of the ongoing 2018 FIFA world cup began and ended in exasperating fashion. France began the day by posting victory over Australia. Argentina and Iceland drew one all whiles Denmark and Croatia downed Peru and Nigeria respectively. A lot of drama unfolded by the end of the day. There were missed penalty kicks, video assistants’ referees in action and fans dressing.

The FIFA world cup which continues today with match day four will look to continue in similar fashion. The match day will see Costa Rica and Serbia begin the day. Germany up against Mexico will be a late afternoon kick-off whiles the fixture between Brazil and Switzerland will end the day. An exciting day is in store for us but before then let’s see who the winners of tomorrow’s matches will be.

Two world cup minnow’s face-off in the 1st fixture of the day. They are Costa Rica of Concacaf and Serbia of Europe. The two teams face-off at the Samara arena at 1pm UK time. This fixture will be the 1st ever meeting between the two sides. Costa Rica will be making their 5th appearance at the world cup tomorrow. For Serbia it will be their 12th appearance at the world cup and 2nd since they became an independent nation.

Costa Rica made it to Russia by topping their group whiles Serbia also did so by finishing 1st in their group.
Costa Rica’s last five matches have resulted in 3 wins and 2 loses. Serbia on the other hand have recorded 2 wins, a draw and 2 loses in their last 5 matches. Costa Rica have relatively unknown players compared to Serbia. The only star Costa Rica can boast of is Keylor Navas whiles Serbia can boast of Ivanovic, Kolarov, Mitrovic, Tadic etc.

Today’s match will be a cagey one because the two teams possesses similar statistics but I see Serbia winning because of the quality of their players.

Defending champions and 4 times winner Germany will battle Mexico in their 1st match and attempt to keep the trophy. The European power house will face-off with the South American nation at Luzhniki Stadium at 4pm UK time. Germany will be making their 19th appearance at the world cup whiles this will be Mexico’s16th appearance.

Germany and Mexico both qualified for the world cup by topping their groups. This fixture will be the 12th time the two sides play each other. Of those meetings Germany have won 6 drawn 4 and lost 1. Germany’s last five matches have generated a win, 2 draws and 2 loses. Mexico on the other hand have generated 2 wins, a draw and 2 loses from their last 5 matches. Both teams have good players even though Germany is superior in that regard.

I expect Germany to come out of their recent slumber to win against Mexico. I think so because ultimately they will be too much for Mexico irrespective of the statistics. The combination of Ozil, Muller, and Werner etc. will just be too much for Mexico to contain.

Brazil, tournament favorite will come up against Switzerland in today’s last fixture. They will be looking to bounce back from their disappointment in 2014. The South American giants will play the European nation at Rostov arena at 7pm UK time. Brazil will be making their 21st appearance at the world cup tomorrow (record) whiles Switzerland will be making their 11th appearance.

Brazil qualified for the world cup by placing 1st in the Conmebol standing. Switzerland on the other hand did so by via a play-off. Both teams have face-off 8 times with Brazil winning 3, drawing 3 and losing 2. They have met once in a world cup with the fixture ending in a 2-2 draw. Brazil’s last five matches have produced 4 wins and a draw whiles Switzerland’s last five matches have produced 3 wins and 2 draws.

Brazil boast a more superior side than Switzerland. Compared to popular names like Neymar, Coutinho, Silva, Marcelo etc. for Brazil, Switzerland only have Xhaka and Shaqiri as star names. This statistics and players the Brazil team have should make tomorrow’s game pretty much an easy win for them.
