MUNDIAL 2018: DAY SEVEN MATCHES.

The global football fiesta in Russia enters day seven or it seventh day. As such we bring you the fixtures or matches to be played today. Before we do that, you know the drill. We recap the previous day’s matches which in this case is yesterday’s matches. The first match which was played between Colombia and Japan ended 2-1 in favor of Japan. The Poland-Senegal fixture, my personal favorite also ended 2-1 in favor of Senegal. The last match of the day saw Russia beat Egypt 3-1 to continue their fairy tale performance.

The Mundial goes on today in the continuation of the 2nd round of matches. The 1st match of the day will see Portugal play Morocco. The mid-day fixture sees Uruguay compete with Saudi Arabia and the evening fixture will see Iran and Spain duel for 3 points. All three matches presents their own chances for the teams involved to claim 3 points and stake their claim for qualification.

PORTUGAL VS MOROCCO: DAY SEVEN.

Day seven of the global football fiesta begins with the clash between Portugal and Morocco. Both teams dropped points in their 1st match and will be raring to pick maximum points on display. The match will take place at the Luzhniki Stadium at 1pm UK time. Portugal and Morocco have only met once in footballing history and that was in the group stage of the 1986 world cup. Morocco won that encounter by 3 goals to 1.

Portugal’s last 5 matches have ended in a win, 3 draws and a defeat, their latest result being the 3-3 draw with Spain. Morocco on the other hand have generated 3 wins, a draw and a loss with that loss coming against Iran courtesy of an own goal in the dying moments of the game. Portugal have a fully fit squad whiles Morocco are sweating over their right back position.

Portugal haven’t suffered defeat to an African opposition after the 3-1 drubbing at the hands of Morocco in 1986. Morocco dominated their previous game and did not concede a single shot. This statistics should all make for a decent and cagey match. I foresee Portugal claiming a victory in this one because they have a certain talisman called Cristiano Ronaldo on their side this time around.

URUGUAY VS SAUDI ARABIA: DAY SEVEN.

The day will continue with the match between Uruguay and Saudi Arabia. The match will see the South American nation come up against the Asian country. Rostov arena will host the match at 4pm UK time. Today’s encounter will be the 3rd time Uruguay and Saudi Arabia have faced-off but the 1st at the world cup. Saudi Arabia are unbeaten in the two previous matches.

Uruguay’s last 5 matches have produced 4 wins and a loss whiles Saudi Arabia’s have produced a win and 4 loses. Uruguay have won all their previous world cup matches against Asian oppositions. Saudi Arabia have finished bottom of their group in their past three world cup appearance. Saudi Arabia haven’t scored in 8 of their 10 world cup games whiles Uruguay are looking to win their 2nd consecutive match in the group stage since 1954.

The difference in quality between the two sides is clear with Uruguay boasting Suarez, Cavani, and Godin. I can only see one result in the Rostov arena this afternoon and that is a Uruguay win.

IRAN VS SPAIN: DAY SEVEN.

Day seven of the Mundial will end with the meeting between Iran and Spain. The match will see the Asian country come up against the European giants. The two sides will duel at the Kazan arena at 7pm UK time. Tonight’s match will be the 1st ever meeting between the two sides in football history.

Spain’s last 5 matches have generated 2 wins and 3 draws with the latest result being the 3-3 draw with Portugal. Iran on the other hand have won 2 and drawn 1of their previous 5 matches with 2 cancelled. Iran have not won against any European opposition at the world cup, a run that stretch 6 matches. Spain too are unbeaten against Asian oppositions at the world cup.

The Iran team are in good form going into the match while Spain are still in disarray after the sacking of their manager hours to the tournament. The errors of De Gea is also there. Despite the condition Spain are in, the statistics and history will be on their side. I expect a win from them tonight come the end of 90 minutes.
