Two days have passed since the world cup in Russia began. Teams like Russia, Uruguay and Iran have posted victories over their counterparts (Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Morocco) whiles the Iberian derby between Spain and Portugal ended in a 3-3 draw. Yesterday was in fact a football fiesta with match after match being played. Today promises even more than that. 4 matches are going to be played before the day ends.

First France will begin the day by playing against Australia, the Argentina will play the early afternoon fixture with Iceland. Peru and Denmark will play the late afternoon fixture then Croatia and Nigeria will end the day with their fixture. Like we did previously we are going to analyze the matches one after the other looking at who has the greater chance for victory.

France one of the tournament favorite will go toe to toe with Australia at the Kazan arena at 11am UK time. Most of the pre-match discussion has centered on France winning the world cup but for them to that they have to clear their 1st obstacle. France and Australia have met 4 times with France winning once, drawing once and losing twice. France topped her qualifiers group to make it to Russia while Australia made it by winning the inter-continental play-off.

The last 5 matches France and Australia have played have both resulted in 3 wins a draw and a loss. France will be making their 21st appearance at the FIFA world cup whiles Australia will be making their 5th. With this statistics, form and experience of both teams I expect France to win this one with a little difficulty. Australia wouldn’t make it an easy job for them as well but the difference in player quality should help.

Argentina and Messi will be hoping this year is the year for success. But before that dream materializes they face tournament newbies Iceland first at Otkrtitie arena at 2pm UK time. Most of the pre-match discussion has is about whether Argentina can annex the trophy. Iceland and Argentina have not played each other before. Compared to Iceland’s 1st appearance, Argentina will be making their 17th appearance.

Argentina came to the world cup having placed 3rd in their qualifiers. For Iceland they finished 1st in their group to make the journey. Argentina’s last 5 matches has ended in 2 wins a draw and two loses compared to 1 win, a draw and 3 loses. The differences in players the two teams boast are very noticeable. whiles Argentina have Messi, Aguero Higuan etc Iceland can only boast of Sirgurdsson. This statistics should all work in Argentina’s favor for them to secure a win.

Peru the South American country goes head to head with their European counterpart Denmark. The match will be played at the Mordovia arena in Saranska at 5pm UK time. Peru and Denmark have only faced each other once with Denmark winning that tie. Denmark and Peru will both be making their 5th appearance at the world cup. Peru qualified to the world cup through play-off whiles Denmark did so by placing 2nd in their Group.

Peru’s last 5 matches have produced 4 wins and a draw whiles Denmark’s have produced a similar result with 3 wins and 2 draws. The two teams have relatively unknown names with Denmark faring a little better in that regard by boasting of Eriksen and Kjaer. The game will be a cagey one because of their similar statistics but I expect Denmark to be victors because of their key men.

Croatia and Nigeria tackle the last game of the day in a Europe-Africa affair. The match will be played at Kaliningrad Stadium at 8pm UK time. Croatia and Nigeria have not faced each other before so this meeting will be their 1st. Again Croatia was 2nd in her qualifiers to make it to Russia whiles Nigeria did so by topping her Group. Nigeria will be making their 6th appearance at the world cup whiles Croatia will be making their 5th.

The last 5 matches Croatia have played have resulted in 2 wins a draw and 2 loses. Nigeria’s last 5 matches have also produced a similar result with a win, a draw and 3 loses. Both teams haven’t made significant inroad at the world cup so will be hoping to change that. Croatia boast a little more quality and well known players than Nigeria. That notwithstanding I expect a cagey encounter which Nigeria will scrap through.
