MATCH DAY TEN OF MUNDIAL 2018.

Today is match day ten of the ongoing Mundial at Russia. 9 days have passed since the tournament began and today welcomes another host of matches. Before we look at those matches let us as always review the previous matches. Brazil was able to defeat Costa Rica 2 nil by the end of 90 minutes. Nigeria also defeated Iceland by the same score line. The Serbia-Switzerland fixture ended 2-1 in favor of Switzerland.

Match day ten welcomes a different set of matches with different opponents. Belgium and Tunisia will play the 1st match of the day. The match day will progress by witnessing the fixture between South Korea and Mexico. The Germany-Sweden fixture will cap of the day and usher in the new match day. This matches like yesterday’s will be entertaining and not without drama or competitiveness.

MATCH DAY TEN: BELGIUM VS TUNISIA.

The European nation and the African country will take to the field in the 1st match of the day. The match will be played at the Otkrytie arena at 1pm UK time. A win for Belgium will see them qualify to the next round whiles defeat for Tunisia will quash their world cup dreams. Today’s match will be the 4th time the 2 teams meet. Both nations have won one each and drawn the other of the 3 previous matches.

Belgium have recorded 4 wins and a draw from their previous 5 matches, the latest being the 3 nil drubbing of Panama. Tunisia on the other hand have generated a win, 2 draws and 2 loses from that same run, with the 2-1 defeat to England being the latest. Tunisia will be without goalkeeper Hassen who has been ruled out from the rest of tournament. This match will be their 2nd meeting at the world cup after the 1st ended in a 1-1 draw.

Belgium are undefeated in their 3 world cup matches against African opponents and their last 10 world cup group matches. Tunisia are winless in their last 12 world cup matches a run which dates to 1978. The statistics are on Belgium’s side whiles the quality of their team is also not in doubt. Tunisia will give a good account of themselves but will ultimately fall short as they can’t seem to score goals.

MATCH DAY TEN: SOUTH KOREA VS MEXICO.

South Korea and Mexico will battle it out in the 2nd fixture of match day ten. The match will be played at the Rostov arena at 4pm UK time. Should South Korea lose they will exit the competition and should Mexico win they will advance to the next stage of the competition. The 2 teams have met once in the world cup, a match Mexico won.

South Korea have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 5 matches, the latest being the 1 nil loss to Sweden. Mexico on the other hand have produced 2 wins, a draw and 2 defeats in that same run, with the shock 1 nil win over Germany being the latest. Mexico have won all three of their world cup games against Asian oppositions. South Korea are winless in their last 7 world cup matches.

The statistics bode well for Mexico and are highly in their favor. They put in a good performance against Germany whiles South Korea was defensive against Sweden. Looking at those little details and the statistics I foresee a Mexico win, one that will confirm their qualification. That notwithstanding it should be a highly competitive match with shortage of goals.

MATCH DAY TEN: GERMANY VS SWEDEN.

Germany play Sweden in the last fixture of match day ten. The match will take place at the Fisht Olympic Stadium at 7pm UK time. A Sweden win will confirm their qualification whiles a defeat for Germany will end their campaign. Germany are undefeated against Sweden in their last 11 matches. The last time Sweden won over Germany was some 40 years ago. Both teams will miss a couple of players through injury and sickness.

Germany have produced a win, a draw and 3 loses in their past 5 matches, the latest result being the 1 nil loss to Mexico. Sweden on the other hand have won 1, drawn 2 and lost 2 in that same run. Their latest result is the 1 nil win over South Korea. Sweden have won over Germany in the two times they faced-off at the world cup although that is some 60 years ago.

The statistics are not entirely on Germany’s side but I expect them to recover from their abysmal start and win over Sweden. Anything less than a win will be catastrophic to their chances of qualification. Sweden will not make it easy for them though as they shown against South Korea. It should make for interesting match for the neutrals.
