The Mundial going on in Russia has entered day nineteen. That means, there are only 12 days left till the final in Moscow. But for now our attention is and should rightly be on the round 16 matches going on. 4 of the round 16 matches have been played and we are still privileged to watch 4 more.

We witnessed the most competitive and time consuming round 16 matches yesterday. Both matches on display went to extra time and then penalty shootout. The 1st match was between Spain and Russia, a match that defied expectations by going to penalty shootout after 1-1 at the end of 120 minutes. Russia the host nation magnificently won the penalty shootout. The 2nd match between Croatia and Denmark also entertained after it went to penalty shootout. Croatia won the shootout after 5 of them was saved by both keepers.

Day nineteen of the Mundial in Russia offers another two competitive and cagey matches. The match between Brazil and Mexico is the 1st of them. The 2nd match of the day is the meeting between Belgium and Japan. The matches will be played at the same time the other two matches were played yesterday. The two matches are clashes between continents and should be a spectacular one.

Brazil versus Mexico is the 1st match of match day nineteen. The match sees 2014 world cup host Brazil come up against Mexico, the Concacaf nation. Both teams will be vying for a place in the quarter finals of the Mundial. Brazil meet Mexico by virtue of finishing 1st in their group whiles Mexico also meet Brazil because they finished 2nd in their Group.

This match day nineteen fixture will be played at the Samara arena at 3pm UK time. Both sides are not strangers to this fixture. They have met 40 times in the past with Brazil winning 23 and Mexico winning 10. They have also met in the world cup 4 times, with Mexico drawing blanks in those matches.

Brazil have recorded 4 wins and a draw from their past 5 matches, the 2 nil win over Serbia their most recent result. Mexico have also produced 3 wins and 2 loses from that same run of matches. Their latest result is the 3 nil drubbing by Sweden, a defeat they will want to rectify and prevent from happening again as they go into this match.

Brazil are unbeaten in their 4 previous world cup matches against Mexico winning 3 and drawing one. Brazil have never been defeated in the world cup by a Concacaf side. Mexico’s only world cup win against South American oppositions came in the Group stage of the 2002 world cup. Mexico last reached the quarter finals of the world cup as host in 1986. The statistics are stacked against Mexico and I expect the result to be too. A 2-1 victory for Brazil is in order tonight.

The last match of match day nineteen will take place between Belgium and Japan. The match will see the European nation come up against the Asian country in their bid to secure passage to the next round of the competition. Belgium face Japan because they were Group winners whiles Japan face Belgium courtesy of placing 2nd in their Group.

Rostov arena is the venue that will host the match and the time for the match is 7pm UK time. This is not the 1st time both sides face each other as they have done that on 5 previous occasion. Of those 5 meetings Belgium have won 1, drawn 2 and lost 2. They have met in the world cup once, a group stage match in the 2002 world cup that ended 2-2.

Belgium have recorded 5 wins from their past 5 matches, the latest result being the 1 nil win over England. Japan on the other hand have produced 2 wins, a draw and 2 loses in their last 5 matches. Their most recent result is the 1 nil loss to Poland, a result they will be hoping to change going into this match.

Belgium are hoping to reach the quarter finals of the world cup for just the 3rd time. They have also won all their matches at this year’s world cup. Japan on the other hand have not won a knockout match before losing on both occasions they reached that stage. They have won just 2 of their nine world cup matches against European sides. The statistics do not favor both sides but more damaging to Japan. I foresee Belgium winning this match because of their quality and it is the last chance for their golden generation to achieve something.
